MPEG 2 problems

Can you make a VCD with MPEG 2? I just got the MPEG 2 plugin and I go to make a VCD and the only file type it shows is MPEG 1. I rendered a normal file in MPEG 2 but I it doesn't play in my Windows MP or Power DVD software. I put it into my Apex DVD player and all I would get is video but no audio. I've rendered the file in MPEG 1 and it plays in all these with no problems. If -2 doesn't work with these applications, what does it work in?

Thanks

VCD is MPEG-1 only. Sorry.
However, MPEG-2 can be used with SVCD, DVD, and as a standalone file that can be played back with many media players.

I'm kind of new, SVCD? Is there something special I need to do to play it DVD? Which media players support MPEG 2?

Thanks

SVCD stands for "Super" VCD, and is a format supported by the newest wave of higher-priced DVD players. I just bought the JVC XV-S502SL (for the Canadian market; I'm sure there are equivalents in other countries) and it supports SVCD in addition to VCD.

I haven't tried MPEG-2-to-SVCD yet as I've only had Video Factory for a couple of weeks and I'm having too much fun with my VCDs.

To answer your question about players, you'll need to buy a newer, better unit than the APEX. I researched on the Consumer Reports website before I made my decision, and have no regrets about buying my JVC.

As for Media Players, open up your Windows Media Player, go to the Help menu, then to the Index, type in mpeg and you'll go to a listing of the file formats supported by your version of the player. If yours doesn't support MPEG-2, I'm pretty sure all you have to do is go to the Microsoft Windows Download site and upgrade to the latest whiz-bang version.

Good luck.

I have both a pioneer and Daewoo that play svcd's. The Daewoo is cheaper and plays ANYTHING I feed it. The Pioneer cost me more, was more hi-tech but is more picky with svcd's. Pioneer is DV-444 Cost about $175, The Daewoo (s) are the 5800 and 6000 I THINK ??, cost about $89 each. Daewoo's are hackable for region free and macrovision free projects. the_ripper
