I've recently received a couple of files that I can't put on the timeline with the program crashing. It happens on both 10 and 11 pro. The file plays fine with Windows Media Player and Quicktime, but Vegas doesn't like it. Here's the details:
Problem Description
Application Name: Vegas Pro
Application Version: Version 10.0e (Build 737)
Problem: Unmanaged Exception (0xccccfffe)
Fault Module: C:\WINDOWS\system32\kernel32.dll
Fault Address: 0x7C812FD3
Fault Offset: 0x00012FD3

Fault Process Details
Process Path: C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro 10.0\vegas100.exe
Process Version: Version 10.0e (Build 737)
Process Description: Vegas Pro
Process Image Date: 2011-06-29 (Wed Jun 29) 17:23:38

Any suggestions on how to use this file?

Have you tried turning off GPU in Vegas?
Post the complete file details using MediaInfo from Sourceforge.
Post your Quicktime version.
Thanks.

Works in Vegas 12 on two different machines. Fails when matching media properties in 9, 10 and 11 with Quicktime 7.7.4.

Suggest you fall back to an earlier version of Quicktime, 7.6.2.

Edit: Fell back to 7.6.2 but no help.

Musicvid is probably on the right track. Disable GPU or any effects from the time or clip.

You could try FFMPEG or FFMBC and re-render the file to another codec or the same. If you do this, lose the compression on the audio track. In my religion, I believe I experience less crashes with uncompressed audio tracks. I believe there are "issues" with decompressing the audio and then syncing the delays. I feel like this happens more with AC3, and PCM is more bullet proof on the wide variety of sound hardware.

I boot my machine into Safe Mode with the same results so I don't suspect video driver.

"Frame rate mode : Variable
Frame rate : 23.976 fps
Minimum frame rate : 23.976 fps
Maximum frame rate : 24.000 fps"

Variable frame rate doesn't warm my heart, but I'm strange that way.

I rendered the file in 12 for you using Sony AVC Blu-ray custom template for video. I resampled audio to 48 kHz PCM using elastique and muxed the files in tsMuxer to .m2ts container. It works in 10 and 11.

Get it here. This file won't be in my dropbox for long.

Thanks for all the input. It failed on 10 and 11 for me. The moment I clicking on it in explorer, the program crashed. I thought it was the frame rate so I rendered it using Freemake video converter changing only the frame rate to 29.97 and had no further problem.

It's good to know that it worked with 12, so that should carry over to 13 when it's released and I upgrade.

I've always been impressed with how flexible Vegas is with file formats, which is why this really threw me.

I've copied all your comments for future reference.
