Because Vegas doesnt support Nero's Mpeg-4 implementation. It doesnt work for etiehr ASP or AVC. Nothing you can do except use Nero Vision to render out to AVI and then import it to Vegas.

Stupid question perhaps.
Why are you even doing this when you can take whatever's on the DVD straight into Vegas.

Since I don't have one around to check, is a "DVD Camcorder disc" the same format as a regular DVD (burned or otherwise created)?

Just curious...

Same files. VOB files are the ones you are wanting.

One extra tip.
You'll more than likely find that Vegas has an issue with joining multiple VOB files, you'll get minor glitches, even with the ones from a Vegas / DVDA created DVD.

To solve this problem use DVD Shrink to join all the VOB files into one VOB file. Vegas will then handle it minus the glitch.

This isn't much of an issue with Camcorder recorded DVDs as these glitches are only at the start / stop of a recording.
