Mpeg and AC3 missing in V8.0a???

Today, I decided to do my first surround project in Vegas 8. I just finished and went to render and there is no Mpeg-1, Mpeg-2, or AC3 Dolby Digital Render options. Why are these missing or what am I doing wrong???

I have Vegas 7 on the same PC and in there it shows my AC3 and Mpeg render options. Where are they in Vegas 8??? I thought I was doing myself a favor, since the video I put together had a lot of TEXT and I thought I would see how the new Vegas text generators are......but now I'm stuck with a finished project that I can't put onto a DVD with no way to put it into Vegas 7. How do I get Mpeg and AC3 render options to appear??

They're probably all there, but just to be sure, check your Shared Plugins folder.
Assuming the mpeg (2.0.0.506) and AC3 (1.0.0.1153) plugins are there, try this trick:

1) Close Vegas
2) Rename the "Shared Plugins" folder to something like "Shared PluginsX"
3) Open Vegas
4) Close Vegas
5) Rename the folder to its original name, "Shared Plugins" without the quotes
6) Open Vegas

See if the mpeg and AC3 rendering options are now available to you.
On my first install, Vegas 8.0a completely refused to recognize the plugins.
I have no idea if this is fixed in 8.0b, since it is not a commonly reported problem on the forums.

Thanks for the help.

I tried that and it still doesn't work. I didn't realize there was a v8.0b update....I guess I'll try updating to that and see what happens.

Is there a way to find out for sure, where Vegas 8 is looking for the shared plugins folder?? It seems odd that they would be available in v7.0 and not v8.0 on the same system.

Thanks again.

Unless you purposely changed the install path, it should all be the same folder.

Example C:\Program Files\Sony\Shared Plugins

It sounds like DVD architect is not present. Not sure about the mpeg plugin, but I know that the AC3 plugin is located in DVDa and therefore it must be present on the machine to encode in AC3

Yep, it's not in the default location....I changed that upon one of my installs and figured Vegas 8 would find it. It never prompted me to point to where it was located during the install.

Hmmmm??? No I don't have DVD Architect installed on this system. My DVD burner is on another PC, so I decided not to install it on this particular PC that has Vegas 8 on it. I just figured I would be able to render from within Vegas 8 to AC3 and MPEG-2, then import those renders over to my other PC with DVD Architect.

The mystery continues. I got to get this project out.....so I saved it as an EDL and opened it in Vegas 7 and I'm doing all the TEXT generators over in V7. This has been a major PITA.

just install DVDA on the V8 machine and your probs will be solved

I did that and still no MPEG or AC3 files appear in V8

I did the rename as suggested above and V8 did say that it could not find the folder, all the normal templates were still there. Renamed it back and still no MPEG/AC3, copied files form another machine in case there where corruption, still no joy.

I have V7 installed and no problems with that, so where does it keep the files.

IS there a way to save the tool bars and adjustments made in V8 so if I have to do a reinstall I can be back to where I was?

Now sorted and how...

I bit the bullet this afternoon and made a restore point and uninstalled V8, then re-installed, but then i could not register again (error 41) so I went back online to talk to the same guy I spoke to last night, (when I installed DVD 4.5) he told me to uninstall V8 again and then delete the V8 folder, download from Sony's server a fresh copy of V8b and install. This I did and all the the templates are back.

Hooray....
