mpeg input/output

anyone notice how utterly useless the mainconcept mpeg plug-in is? i'm unable to 'drop' 90% of the mpeg's i encounter even though they can be played through an ancient version of micros~1 mediaplayer. then on the other side of the coin - rendering - none of my friends can play them on there machines. i find the best tool for distributing video is virtual dub which is free ... funny. i'm only knocking the mpeg junk, everything else, especially audio, is great.

If you're rendering MPEG2, then the machine on which you are trying to play it must have an MPEG2 codec installed. MPEG2 codecs are not installed by default in Windows Media Player.

Now, if you're talking about MPG1 files, then they should be playable in almost any version of Media Player.
