Mpeg layer 3 - No supported formats

I have recently re-installed Vista and Vegas 8.0b.

When I try to render a video, I select "Mpeg layer 3", but the drop-down box below it always says "No supported formats".

Any idea how i can resolve this issue? I need it to upload to Youtube which needs MP3 I understand..

(.mp3) MPEG-I, Layer 3" by itself, is an audio-only encoding format.
Use .AVI, .MOV, or .MPG video file format .

I'm trying to use "Mpeg layer 3" in the audio tab of AVI container. Is this incorrect?

If so, can you tell me how to create an AVI ( Xvid / MP3 ) when I cannot see any other way of selecting MP3 in the audio tab?

You need to install an MP3 ACM codec. Do a search on Lame MP3, this may work for you.

Another question - did you have a good reason to reinstall v8.0b rather than the latest Vegas update ?

I've not seen an update to Vegas Pro later than 8.0b.
It's not listed in the downloads section at SCS.
Is this "latest update" something I've missed?
