MPEG PulgIn

Seems quite odd to me. I can play MPEG2 files an so on in other applications but NOT in VF! I tried to "register" the MPEG2 and I was kindly told that I could not.
Why do I need to registeer this if I can use it in other applications?
Where are the technical support people anyway? I NEVER see them on the Forums!
Seems to e that the Sonic Foundry folks do not intend to support their products. Fine! Let's get the word out to the people! Let them know that the products are not supported. Wanna stay in business? Keep your customer base happy OR ELSE!

Well Dennis, unless you've been lurking and not posting your profile shows you been here one day which would explain why you may have said what you said.

Actually the SonicFoundry folks are active in the forums and you can tell when they make an "official" comment because the SonicFoundry logo appears along side their name.

The copyright to the MPEG-2 format belongs to the Motions Pictures Expert Group and they require payment of royalties which is why SonicFoundy, even Microsoft don't give away free copies. :-)

I've moved up to Vegas Video so I haven't been following what's happening except that I know the license to the previous Ligos MPEG plug-in expired. So if you can't register, that's the problem until the newer (better?) mpeg plug-in is released.

The new MPEG plugin has been released. It is bundled with the Video Factory 2.0b update (which is a pretty heft 27 MB since it appears to include all the 2.0a fixes as well).

The bad news is that the new plug-in only supports MPEG-1. To get MPEG-2 functionality you must buy an additional plug-in ($29.95 for the lite version, $99.95 for the pro version).

However, SF says if you registered your Ligos plugin before Nov, you can get a new activation code for it if you email tech support. I did that a week ago and haven't heard a response - guess the support staff took an early vacation.

Bottom line is that if you just recently bought VF2 and want MPEG-2, you are SOL unless you spend more $$$. Makes the $149 upgrade to VV3 more appealing every day.

Hi DiscDude,
Where did you see that about emailing tech support to get activation for the mpeg2 portion of the plugin?

Thanks

See the VideoFactory 2.0b Readme.

(EDIT) I just got an email from SF -- to register the Ligos encoder, you need to give tech support more than just the serial number. If you go to Help/About Video Factory there is a number below the serial #. (Activation # I guess), you need to include this number as well (/EDIT)
