MPEG1 Rendering Problems

Whenever I try to render my project as MPEG1 using the default template (720x480) rather than VCD NTSC it craps out with the message "An error occured while creating the media file blahblah.mpg. The reason for the error could not be determined."

The same project I Render As: VCD NTSC, AVI, MPEG2 (DVD NTSC) ... ALL WORK FINE

Any suggestions? Do I need a new/different/updated encoder?

Well, for one thing, if you intend to view this file only on a computer monitor, then the size should be 640x480, not 720x480. The converts from the rectangular pixel aspect ratio of DV video to the square pixel aspect ratio of a computer monitor.

Secondly, the MPG1 encoder in Vegas doesn't look particularly good anyway. Render your file out as a DV file and use the free TMPGENC encoder available here:
