mpeg2 bit audio bitrate

I have Movie Studio 8.0 and if I export a Video from it to MPEG 2 Format it says in the Discription Box the Frame Size and all that.

And it says the Audio will be 224 kbps and 48 kHz Stereo.

But if you look on the Internet they say if you ever Rip a Audio CD to an MP3 File 256 kbps is CD Audio.

And MP3 Audio is the Audio layer of MPEG 2 Video.

So why is my MPEG 2 Audio going to be 224 kbps and not 256 kbps?

What am I not understanding?

MPEG I Layer II (MPEG-2 audio) and mp3 are different formats. Entirely.
Neither is CD audio.

The part they don't usually say is that that "CD audio" is when played back on tiny computer speakers (no subwoofer) They are saying that, when played on those crappy speakers, you can't tell the difference between a 256 kbps mp3 file and a CD.

Not sure if that (no difference) is really true. I've never tried a comparison.

And all that aside, you can pick whatever bitrate you want for your audio. Really, most folks use 128KB for their MP3 files. This is what places like iTunes and Amazon MP3 use for their distribution. It's just a tradeoff between how much space you want to save and how much quality you're willing to lose.

The only reason those places can get by with 128K delivery is it's all joint stereo. Same with most home encoding solutions, in fact I think Lame defaults to j-stereo.
Not saying it's that bad. I encoded my CD library for portable playback in j-stereo at 192K.
Unadulterated stereo equivalents would be 224-256 K for mp3.

You say I can pick what Bitrate I want my Audio to export to I can not.

When I go to export my Video as MPEG-2 on the Bottom left side it says Save Cancel and Custom.

The Custom Tab is Gray.

So what do I do?

Save your MPEG-2 video without audio.
Render AC3 stereo.
Mux the two together in Avidemux as mpg-ps.
MPEG audio is horrible.
