mpeg2 editing help

Hi,
I have tried doing some editing with mpeg2 files in vegas 5 today. I mainly wanted to do some crossfades between different files (just simple ones) and also change the audio file. But when it came to rendering the final result, vegas seemed to want to rerender the whole project. I thought that being mpeg2 files already there would hardly be any need for rerendering.
I want to avoid re rendering already mpeg2 files not to lose quality. How can i do this please, preferibly in Vegas?
I usually work with avi files and i know about the time consuming rendering in those cases, but already mpg 2 files have to be rerendered? I do not wish that.
I then want to use adobe encore dvd to make my dvd.
Many thanks for help

This is a very big issue. Search the forum for VOB files and you'll see what I mean. Personally, I've invested in TMPGenc to perform simple edits to mpeg files, reserving the conversion of the VOB files to a HUFFYuv codec based AVI for the occasion major edit. Darryl

Avoid MPEG files. You will find yourself getting very frustrated and having to use a lot of workarounds. Stick to AVIs. The extra time for rendering will be offset by less aggravation.
