mpeg2 file help

I have a problem while trying to use mpeg2 files that I can not figure out. Whenever I try to use a MPEG 2 file ( I am trying to make DVD's of home movies) I try to load it in the DVD authoring program or even play it in Media player or even go to it in explorier it will close the program or window and go back to the desktop. I have discovered that anytime I don't have a disk in my zip drive this happens. If I put a disk in the drive everything works just fine. None of the files are on the zip drive they are all on either drive E or F hard drives and this only happens with mpeg 2 files. the following are a list of my drives.
A: floppy
C: Zip Drive
D: DVD burner
E: extra hard drive
F: This is my main drive that boots the computer

Some how the computer must be using the zip drive but I can't find out where or how I can disable this so I don't have to leave a disk in all the time.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Windows always assumes that the C drive is a harddrive. Why do you have your zip as C? This is probably the problem.

I would definately swap drive letters C: and F: so that C: is the main boot drive and F: is the Zip drive. In fact, i'm not sure how you even accomplished this setup. There is probably a lot of software out there (not just windows) that assumes that C: is a place where it can store temporary information. If you don't have a disk in that drive then these assumptions fail.

On second thought, i would probably ditch the Zip drive altogether. I find them to be just about worse than useless. Copy the few Zip disks you've got over to some DVD-RWs and be done with them.

Short version long story.
Hard drive failure
Took it to computer store to get oldfiles off and put new HD in he left old drive in got it limping along and installed XP on new Drive set up as F: after getting off what he could off old C Drive put it back together and the boot drive is F: i may just wipe things clean and start from scratch. i tried changing the zip to G: but something is still looking foe it when i use a MPEG @ file.

thanks for the help
