MPG-1 jiggle and other questions

I just converted a power point presentation to MPEG1 for my companies training department. Apparently, we're not 'advanced' enought to use MPEG2. Most of the text I typed in myself rather than converting the *.ppt to *.jpg files and dissolving them into one another which would have been easier. I used the text editor on multiple tracks and had the text scroll from below in time with the narration. I also added some construction video (apparently only available in MPEG1) to try make this really really dry presentation be a little more interesting. Problem is when I render in MPEG1 to CD, it runs kinda jerky on most employee screens. Looks really bad. Runs OK on my 2.4 GHZ P4, worse on my laptop. So..I plan to: 1) resample the project during rendering, 2) try rendering in another format like quicktime, 3) convert the project to an uncompressed *.avi file before rendering. The MPEG2 looks great by the way. Previews look good despite the layers of video tracks.

Anyone have a suggestion I might have a look at to try to fix this problem before next Tuesday?

You might be saving at too high of a bitrate for the slower computers. Try a lower bitrate and see how low you need to go before you compromise quality.

I tried to lower the bit rate but it won't render the entire project below 1500000bps. Everything else I've tried looks like stop action like half a second per picture. This is really bad. the source video is mpeg1 which i recompress to mpeg1 again. So I tried converting it to AVI before rendering. No help. Havent' tried quicktime or other formats yet.

I recommend using the free TMPGenc encoder for MPEG 1; much better quality than mainconcpet's....

too bad I can't get any interest on this issue cause it's a big one. I have this MPEG 1 video. It runs just fine on my sons computer. Now, If I use it as material for another project, it runs jerky, like one frame every 1/2 second. Just MPGEG1, text and a few JPGs pictures. WHY? What the hell is this? As I have said before, I tried to slow down to 1mbit/sec and it won't render below 1700000b/s. I have to get this fixed. NOW.

Out of curiousity - how did you convert the PPT file to MPEG?

I've done this in the past - but I run my laptop through an external hookup to my VCR....then tape it...then I can turn around and redigitize it as an MPEG and go from there.

Maybe it is in the converstion process.

Another thing you might could do - is creat the presentation from scracth in Vegas. No conversion required. I've done that in the past also.

Just a suggestion.

If the original MPEG1 files runs fine, then I would get a bitrate viewer like the one here, to determine what its resolution and bitrate is. Then I would render the second MPEG1 file with the exact same resolution and bitrate (CBR/VBR, whatever...). This should work.

well, I'm running out of time tonight so I'm not going to pursue this for a few days. there is a project contract to a vendor in another city. He took lots of B-roll of a construction site which was then approved by his customer. He's a FCP house with an impressive and expensive setup. He supplies MPEG-1 on CD which is the form common on the project. I prefer MPEG2 which has no problems. There's more to this story but let's leave it at that.
I'm pressed for time tonight finishing editing I should have done days ago which is what I get for taking a holiday. Tomorrow morning we'll make the presentation using my P4 laptob. BUT, I'll still have to get this fixed. I'll try the link you supplied as my next approach. Thanks for the help.... Now, if only I could find where the stupid 'trimmer' went so I can finish.
