MPG brightness, saturation

I'm using a VMS rendered video output in a software application. When rendering to MPEG1, there seems to be a considerable increase in brightness and saturation than when rendering to AVI.

The MPG1 is also brighter and more saturated than a screen capture from the same avi source. When a rendered sequence is replaced by a still, an obvious flash occurs as brightness and saturation drops.

Is there any information on precisely the magnitude of these changes and how to precisely correct for them ?

Why are you rendering to mpg1? Did you try mpg2?

The application software that I'm using only supports MPEG1.

I've been playing around manually and found that :
8% saturation increase
8% brightness increase
1% contrast increase
... gives a similar result to MPEG1

Any better figures are appreciated.
