mpg file format cannot be opened...

i am unable to import mpg files in either movie studio or vegas ( i just upgraded). here is the message i am getting when i import mpg files:

File C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\My Videos\Video Extras\Samples\Video\P1-06.mpg could not be opened.

does anyone know how i can solve this issue?

Can you play them in WMP - or anything else for that matter? Where did they come from?

the files play fine in all my media players i have. not sure where they came from, i will have to check...
