mpg file question

I have VMS 8 platinum. When I want to make a DVD I can just click the make a movie button. It creates a seperate audio file and a mpg file.
Or I can render to a mpg2 file. Which just creates an mpg with audio.
Does it matter which way I create the mpg file for making the dvd ? Is any one better than the other ?
thanks

Hope I didn't confuse.

Well, you have to make an MPEG2 file; nothing else works with DVDs. Generally MPEG audio isn't as good or as compatable as AC3. So it's better to render the MPEG2 file without audio and render the audio as AC3 separately. If your version of Vegas doesn't offer AC3 rendering then render to WAV and let DVDA convert it to AC3.

When you render in Vegas to mpg2 format, you can't tweak settings like bitrate, because you only have the templates to choose from (you can't tweak them).
When you render in Vegas to the dv-avi format, there is no loss of quality. Import this file into DVDA, and you can tweak settings like bitrate etc. (DVDA will then rerender to mpg2 before burning the dvd).
I must admit though, that for straightforward homemovie making, the default templates in Vegas will do just fine.

Thanks for the info. Mine does create a seperate AC3 file.I had VMS 6 which created a seperate wav file.
I didn't realize that you can import an avi file in DVDA. I will have to try it. Thank-you
