mpg files choppy

I have 8 platinum. When I drop mpeg files in to the timeline they play back choppy. I have captured the HD video from Canon HV20 to Roxio easy media creator 10.
The reason I capture through roxio is so it creates a file on my hard drive instead of having to capture through VMS and then having to render it. It saves a lot of time.
any ideas ? thanks

Sorry, but what you say does not make much sense. Vegas saves a file on the disk too. It saves .m2t files, these files are easily editable as long as you have over 1 GB of RAM and a younger than 3 years CPU. I highly recommend you use Vegas to capture in .m2t format, select the right 1080/60i or 1080/50i template in the project properties, edit that, and then render out. That's the correct workflow, especially for HD files that are heavy.

thanks for the suggestion. my pc can handle it.. So after editing I just render the m2t files as a mpeg 2 for DVD ?

Yes, you export with the mpeg2 DVD templates found on vegas exporting dialogs.

Just had the same shakyness. My 1st HD video from Sony HDR-SR5.
The software that came with the camera is Motion Picture Browser. Creates .m2ts files.

Recomendation is to have Vegas import from camera from now on?
