MS locks up when Master Volume fader is adjusted!

Xdj wrote on 4/1/2014, 6:49 PM
Greetings All,
I wonder if anyone is having this issue or can help me with it because support is no help!
Any time I attempt to move the master volume fader in Movie Studio the GUI will lock up...Which means nothing will work: videos will not play, buttons can not be pressed, volume fader does not move, program will not close...the whole interface is frozen for about 2 minutes!
At this time the fader is highlighted and it can be adjusted. At this point all is well until another adjustment to the master volume is needed and the the whole process repeats itself!
First attempt with supported suggested I create a new user account in windows after removing MSP.
I did one step better...I wiped out Windows and installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 Pro 64bit...Still have the same problem!
I contacted support to let them know their solution did not work. That was almost 2 weeks ago and I still have not heard back from them!
I bought the software last month for my birthday and haven't been able to use it! I really don't know what to do and I'm out $150 for Movie Studio 13 Suite!
Any suggestion would be appreciated!
I was a systems specialist for a large organization and supported multiple software solutions. I have been in the I.T. industry for nearly 20 years so I know my way around a computer just so you know I'm not a newbie.
I have checked all my hardware and it's working fine, plus I have no other software issues!

Thank you,

X

I don't have a specific solution, but if it is audio related, have you tried disabling the specific (default) audio driver and reinstalling it?

Same issue for a 5.1 master or 2.0?

Doesn't matter what the sound settings are: Stereo or 5.1....

If I click on anything to do with the Master Volume the system locks up!

If I don't adjust or touch anything to do with the Master Volume, the software basically works as its suppose to!!

Extremely weird!!!

Thanks for your input...

What are you audio devices and have you tried updating or changing your audio driver?

It seems like a very specific conflict to me.

As I mentioned before, I wiped out the system and reinstalled Win 7 Pro, Vegas Movie Studio and installed all new drivers for the system!

I'm using onboard audio from my Giga-byte ga-990fxa-ud5 MoBo (Realtek ALC889).

Bizarre,,,

Awhile back, I had a conflict with an NVidia driver and a RealTek driver. Perhaps try an older version of the driver?

Another thought...Have you tried to disable the RealTek driver in the device drivers?

I don't have any additional suggestions...Just trying to rule things out.

It is a long shot, but the following has proven to cure audio issues:
in menu options<preferences hit tab "audio device". There are sliders there to increase the audio buffers. Increase the buffers substantially and try out if it cures the problem. Good luck!

Has anyone found a solution to this problem? We are experiencing the same issues.

Hi

Same here with latest build 64 bit

Had a go with vegas pro 13 demo - same thing

V12 demo is fine

Yet another bug I guess :(

Edit - I just sent a support ticket in to Sony, 2 faults now found in movie 13

This master volume and no quality render in quick sync - speed option works fine

Had a go with the master mute option in vegas 13 demo - that also locks the pc.

It gives this error

Hi all

here is some more info on the fader bug

Customer support wrote

". I have noticed that you have a Wacom device and you have used it on this machine, which may be causing the issue. Let's have you uninstall that device's driver by going to Control Panel | Hardware and Sound | Device Manager. Then locate your Wacom device on the list, right click on it, and choose Uninstall. Then try reproducing the issue in Movie Studio 13 Platinum."

Now on a clean install of W7 64 bit there was no Wacom device but movie 13 still locks up on the master fader so I tested the 32 bit version - that works just fine so it is the 64bit that is at fault

UPDATE 14/7/14

Just in from SCS tech support

"Hi David,

Thank you for writing back.

Our development team has submitted this issue as a bug and will address it in a future update of the application. At this time, there is unfortunately no fix for the issue, but there are a few work arounds reported. Here are some of them:

1. Using the scroll wheel on the mouse after clicking on the fader slider, you can adjust the level. Hold Ctrl and scroll to get more precise increments.

2. Using the Arrow keys on your keyboard.

3. Undocking the masterbus from the rest of the Vegas interface. (This works occasionally).

4. Using the 32-bit version of Movie Studio 13 Platinum. (This works occasionally).

If you still have a follow-up question on this particular incident, please feel free to update it. If you have a completely different question, please create a new incident."
