Hi, hoping someone has some time to guide me through a few things I've just gotten stuck on.
Background:
I'm a newbie, self taught, trying to edit a band video.
Original footage not available. Shot a few years ago at 720 x 480 Was told it was a combination of 30p and 24p fps and telecined. A friend converted that FCP footage into what I'm using as my "source" which is H.264 1980 x 1080 30p in .mov container.
1) I had to get "creative" with editing because the "source" footage had color problems with certain sections that were lit with red and just over saturated. I could only get so far with Sony Color Corrector, so I used Pixelan filters. I had to add titles and closing credits. also had to insert new 24 khz audio to replace old 16 khz version.
2) Preview lag is just terrible at this point because of the filters but I don't know what to spend my limited upgrade money on. What would help? CPU or Graphics Card? Are either of these even replaceable in a laptop?
3) Project properties - I need to render to SD and HD and I'm completely confused about interlace/de-interlace settings and whether what I'm seeing on screen is the footage as is, or is it the player? I know there's more to this, just trying to mention my main questions first. My rendered blu-ray shows very noticeable combing/wavy artifacts especially during motion intensive scenes.
4) Would using Cineform help? And if so, which version? If I had a faster CPU or Graphics card, would I even need it?
I am afraid that this might lead to other questions and so I just want to say thank you in advance to anyone who's willing to help out.
I'm really just hoping for someone patient to guide me and I'm willing to give up a few pennies (I'll buy you pizza or beer or something) donate to your cause, or whatever the proper procedure is for expression of appreciation. If this is not allowed, I apologize and will gladly just offer my profuse thanks.
Best,
G
