When I tried to open Movie Studio as few days ago, I got the error message, "This application has failed to start because MSVCR71.DLL was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem." Tech Support "Answer ID 4439" (which applies to a missing MSVCR80.dll) includes a long list of programs that need to be uninstalled/reinstalled, plus the deletion of 6 registry entries. Being a novice pc user, it seemed like a lot of work for one file.
I searched some resources outside the Sony forums and found the suggestion to copy msvcr71.dll to the program's directory. Since I found a dozen different applications on my pc using msvcr71.dll, I copied one, pasted it to the Sony Vegas directory, and can now open the application. Hopefully, it will be a lasting fix.
