MTC sync w/acid+vegas

Siggi_Churchill wrote on 12/16/1999, 2:50 PM
I'm wondering if there is a way to sync acid and vegas
together internally in a computer. I have dual 450's in NT
and can easily run both apps at the same time. What I have
been doing is starting with a click in acid which I run wild
and then recording the click from acid in vegas while I
record raw tracks. I can then use the click reference that
I recorded in vegas to chop my raw takes into loops that get
plugged back into acid. This falls apart though when I want
to record vocals or other disk based tracks that I don't
want to loop. I'm home free if I can sync acid and vegas
and treat them as one big multi track. Anybody got any
ideas?
Bussing from acid to vegas is a piece of cake with the DSPF
and so is monitoring. If I can get this to work I've got a
serious audio tool on my hands.

Sure. Install the Virtual MIDI Router that is on both the ACID and
Vegas CD (in the extras folder.)

You can have Vegas or ACID slave to MTC. This implies that Vegas or
ACID has to be generating MTC, which they both do as well. Since you
will be working with the same sound card for both apps, then make
sure you set the slave app to trigger only not chase.

Depending on how you want to use things - Create tracks in Vegas to
augment ACID tracks or visa versa - would determing which app is the
master and which is the slave. Regardless, you can set up each to be
the master and the slave. It is a simple switch to change as you are
working.

Works like a charm Thanx.

Its seems to work best with ACID as the master. ACID doesn't like
chasing very well but VEGAS locks right up every time. When ACID was
chasing the sound would be in sync but the display would be quite a
bit ahead and was stuttering. The other way around, however, was
smooth as silk. I am running version 1 of ACID however which might
account for the sync problem. Other than that minor little blip it
works great.
I don't recommend people try this w/out a beast of a computer and a
sound card that you can route into and out of easily though.

Once again thanks for your help and keep up the good work!!!!

Glad it is working for you. You are right, you need a beast of a
machine to do this with out glitching - as well as a well behaved
sound card and drivers.

The sync code in ACID needs to be updated to that of Vegas. We are
aware of this and a future update will have this. (Note v2.0 of ACID
does not have new sync code.)

This all sounds wonderful. I must be doing something wrong though.
Can you walk me through the setup to slave Vegas to Acid.

Thanks in advance

Sorry about the delay in resonse I don't check older posts very often.

Install the virtual MIDI router which comes with vegas and acid. Go
into advanced midi properties in both programs and you will have four
midi ports to deal with. Tell Vegas to transmit MTC on channel 1 (or
2 or 3 etc..) and to receive MTC on 2. Go to ACID and tell it to
transmit MTC on 2 and recieve on 1. Use Acid as the master clock and
transport (meaning that acid will generate MTC and you will use its
transport controls). Make sure that you have generate MTC checked in
ACID and that Vegas is set to slave to MTC. One quick note---if you
have Vegas and Acid trying to output audio on the same channel of your
sound card, vegas will not sync. The two cannot share the same output
of your sound card because they are still two independant pieces of
software. You will need a sound card that has more than 2 outputs
(I'm using a yamaha DSPF).
WARNING !!!
This takes a beast of a machine (I have dual PIII450, 512 ram, 10Krpm
scsi drive, and 2 19" monitors).
The dual monitors are almost essential as you will have alot of info
that you need to see.
If you start adding FX and open SF4.5, CDA etc.. the CPU load is
enormous.

Good Luck!
