Multi-Channel Audio - Canon XL1-s

Just picked up a Canon XL1s camera & still trying to figure out all its capabilities.
(and how they work with VV3) - some help would be appreciated!

XL1s advertises that it can record on 4 channels (ie 2 stereo channels ) simultaneously. I was able to figure out how to set the camera to this mode
with a little help from the manual (so i think i'm doing it right)

My question is though - if i record video with "2 audio channels" (audio 1 = from "built in mic" on camera: audio 2 from an external mic hooked up to audio 2 inputs ), when i import the footage onto my computer (via IEEE connection) & drop the media onto the timeline, shouldn't i be able to see 1 video track, and 2 audio tracks below it?

From my first test, it doesn't appear this is the case? i really hope i'm just doing it wrong???
suggestions/comments?
thanks

Vegas does not support 4 channel DV audio, sorry.

Is there a chance that this might be added in a future update? I'm curious as to where the issue is, as I've never seen a product based around type 1 or 2 .avi files that recognizes with 4 channel audio. Cinestream is the other app I'm familiar with and it's Quicktime based, but it recognized 4 channels (although only captured 2 at a time). Is it simply not possible with the .avi spec? And if not, could a future update allow someone to recapture the secondary channels as audio-only?

Why not?

At least I'm not the only one wanting to be able to capture the second audio track!
