No problem---I would recommend the adaptec card--Compusa had a deal on them last weekend for 25 bucks.

Just don't have more than one device powered on at the same time, and Vegas should be able to figure this out.

My experience with Vegas Capture is that it can't handle more than one capture device (that is, you cannot select which device); which is why I use Scenalyzer.

I think there may be issues with doing external preview as well; my memory is saying that Vegas uses the first device that Windows finds as the external preview device. I could be mis-remembering though. I'll try to test this later today.

You ask an interesting question. I can relate some experience with multiple firewire devices being used for Vegas previews.

I recently bought a JVC DV tape deck and hooked it up via firewire along with my ADVC-100 with a video switch that allows either to be used for Vegas previews.

I wondered myself how this would all work since Vegas only ouputs to the 1394 bus and does not allow you to specify what device you are routing to. What actually happens on my system is that sometimes the switch works and I can switch between a JVC processed preview to an ADVC-100 processed preview. More often than not, however, the ADVC-100 just doesn't get it and I have to rely on the JVC DV deck. It seems hit and miss like most things on my firewire system.

If either of the devices is off, however, the on-device works just fine. Firewire - what a system. I'll take USB 2.0 every time I get to make the choice. I hope that future cameras and DV decks give us a USB option. Way more reliable in my opinion.

This is a limitation in Vegas; not Windows or Firewire.

Programs that are coded to understand that you can have multiple 1394 image devices (such as Scenalyzer) work fine with multiple active devices.

Windows will only support one video stream whci is why Vegas doesn't have a mechanism to select a device. Same happens on Macs as well. I have some vague notion that this relates to deals between uStuff, Apple and Hollywood and copy protection. If anything did support multiple streams then you could intecept the stream out of say WinDVD and route it straight into Vegas bypassing CSS.
It maybe possible to actually switch devices but this isn't the same as having say video coming in on one port and going out on another at the same time.
