So, I can just plug in the firewire into the laptop and Vegas can capture all six tracks, right?

The 1814 has only 2 mic pres. How do you plan to route the other 4 mics into it?

doesn't it have 1/4" inputs?. I have not bought it yet. I want to record an accoustic band.

Yes it has 1/4" inputs but these are line inputs. There are only 2 mic preamps (inputs), hence my question about the other 4 mics you intend to use. Unless you have 4 other mic preamps that you could route to the line inputs of the MAudio unit, this won't allow you to do what you want. It sounds like you might want to consider one of the firewire mixers by Alesis or Phonic instead of the MAudio.

Try a Phonic Helixboard 18 Firewire. 8 mic , total 18 i/p channels mirrored to Firewire.

Will those mixers allow me to record multiple tracks in Vegas 6?

Yes.

I just hooked an Alesis Multimix Firewire 16 to my PC...Vegas sees it.
I would recommend going the mixer route myself...let it do double duty!
