I still can't figure out how to either

A: after converting to Multicamera mode being able to switch back to where you get more than one track of audio (what I had before I switched to multicamera mode).

B: just being able to switch back to the regular timeline.

Any ideas or am I missing something workflow-wise?

When you create a multi-camera track, you are essentially condensing a number of video tracks onto a single track as takes (right click the event in the multicam track and choose Take>... you'll see everything listed there). The audio should remain in separate tracks.

Disabling multicam editing will not spread those events out onto separate tracks. Once they have been condensed onto a single track, they will stay there. Enabling or disabling multicamera editing affects the appearance of the preview window, but not the timeline.
