Multiple event properties change: possible?

Hi there.

I've been using Wild FX Pro to make avi titles with a transparent background and can bring them into vegas 5 easily. On the timeline or in the media pool, the alpha property is set by Vegas to "none", so I have to individually open up each title and change that property to Straight.

Question: is there a way to export from FX Pro so that Vegas recognizes the alpha channel, or alternatively, to make a batch change to all of the titles' alpha properties?

Much appreciate your advice.

Pierre

Yes. Set this up on either the timeline or media pool, then right click to view the file properties. In the Properties window, you can see a small floppy icon. Click this to tell Vegas to always recognize this sort of file with whatever properties changes you've made.

Oh my gosh, thanks Douglas... at first I couldn't see the icon even after reading your post twice.

I read the post five times before I found the icon. I definitely didn't know about this hidden gem. Thanks, Spot.

(BTW, for those as visually impaired as Pierre and me, the icon can be found midway down in the dialog on the line that says: "Stream:")

Sorry it doesn't work for me:

1.selec a 32 bit file in the timeline or media pool
2. set the prop to premultiplied alpha
3. save the setting
4. put another identical 32 bit file in the timeline : still not recognized as 'premultiplied"

Anything wrong?

If it's the same file format, it should work.
Sorry Pierre and John, I should have been more descriptive as to where the button is and how it's labeled. (or mislabeled, cuz it's kinda confusing)

Douglas,

That wasn't a critique of your description, but a little usability complaint... the icon looks like it belongs to the "Stream" attribute, not something that is relevant to the entire screen.

Glad to see I wasn't the only baffled one!

Man, I thought I could use this to make the default for "Maintain Aspect Ratio" to be DEselected. Is there some way I can do that? I like my clips to fill the screen, rather than some of them leaving tiny black bars sometimes. I'd love if I could have all clips come in using a specific pan/crop setting...

Which brings up a question (or a hope... or a hopeful leak on Vegas 6)... Will Vegas switch back to CHECK BOXES (like Vegas 4) for such things in the cropping window?? The Vegas 5 window is a pain (to me) to have to use drop-downs (2 clicks vs. 1).

PumiceT, use the Match Aspect script. You can get a free version from http://www.ayizwe.net/VegasScripts/ and both Excalibur and Ultimate S contain this functionality.

Howdy.

I've now actually tested this in Vegas 5, and it doesn't work unfortunately. Just for kicks, I changed the name of a file extension to "iva", changed the properties to "alpha premultiplied", saved that default video profile, then imported another "iva" file... nothing. Video stream in the newly imported file remained at "none".
