Multiple video overlay

I'm not sure what this is called, maybe some form of composting but I am trying to figure out how to overlay 2 video streams. One as a background and the other just a portion of it with the remaining of the video transparent.

Example: Take a clips from a Nascar race and add in just the car of someone I know driving at the same time.

Can this be done with Vegas or will I have to use a 3rd party app and if so what is a good one to use?

It's called a PIP (Picture in Picture). Do a search for PIP and you'll find LOTS of hits.

Yes, it can be very easily done in Vegas. Look at the first three issues of my newsletters to see how this is done using Track Motion. There are also many options to do a "split screen" many of which can be found in vol 3 #1 of the newsletters.

I think he is talking about masking. It can be done in Vegas but it is very time consuming. There are some third party applications that can follow motion, but they are also very expensive. Do a search on here for masking.

I'm fairly well versed in using the Track Motion for PiP but it sounds like masking might be what I am looking for. I have some videos I am trying to do a video clip insertion.
