Murphy's Law Strikes!

You know you shouldn't do it. I did the other day. I was boasting about never making a single DVD coaster. Well now the last 3 out of 4 attempts I've got 3 coasters all due to bad media and each time the error message is write error due to bad media. Confirmed by burning the same files on another brand and it works perfectly.

I recently switched to burning labels directly to DVD's. So I ordered a 25 Optodisc 2.4X DVD+R InkJet printable spindle. Low prices yes, apparently low quality too. I've used 4, 3 failed. Your mileage may vary.

No more no name media for me. The cost in wasted time far outweights the difference in saving a few bucks on the price.

When I first started writing DVDs, I purchased a variety pac from Meritline that included a sampling of several of their DVD-Rs. I found Princo to be terrible, and Optodisc to be not too good either (although not entirely bad).

From everything I've read, plus my own experience, the "ultimate" DVD-R (based on compatibility with the largest number of players) is the Maxell DVD-R 2x branded media. I've also read (and had good luck) with all manner of Ritek branded media (1x, 2x, and 4x).

I bought a pac of 100 DVD blanks from tapeworld.com. Cheap price no coasters yet.

Just one of those things maybe, maybe not. Now that it happened, I looked at the remaining blanks more closely. Every one looks like there is something leaking inside the inner circle, the hub area or whatever its called. Each disc has an uneven pattern like if something oozed out. I looked at all my other DVD's that I burned in the past and some blanks I stll have left (both DVD+R and DVD+RW) and none have this 'leaking', in fact all are very clear and clean in the hub area. I don't know, maybe something due to the fact they're the inkjet printable type and my other discs aren't? It kind of looks like what happens when you put too much glue when sticking a chair leg bank on, something like that. Weird.
