Music does not play in exported video

Sahfarry wrote on 11/18/2014, 5:32 PM
I am using Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11.0 for my video. This problem has only come up recently; the program has worked perfectly in the past.

When I export the video that I have been working on (as a .mp4), the video comes out fine and the voice audio is alright as well. But, when we get to parts where I put music to play, there is no sound. This has been frustrating. Does anybody have a solution?

EDIT: Now when exporting the video, Sony Vegas will occasionally crash.

Here is the mediainfo data (I have never used it before, so if anything else is needed, tell me):

Try converting the music to WAV files using Sound Forge or the free download Audacity.

But note also that iTunes music is notorious for having copy protection built into it that often keeps you from using it in a video project.

The difficult issue of Copyright will endure, even if you do get it to play...

Can't you use audacity to record it as it plays? I know some computers can't do that as you need to have "what you hear" or similar enabled and I found that the new computers have that disabled by default or just not available. I had to buy a USB sound device from Creative to do it.

If this is the solution, how come this type of music has worked before in other projects?

Is it that there's some sort of copyright protection? I checked in Windows Media Player to make sure, and it said that there wasn't, but could there be one that I didn't take into account?

BTW, thanks for the advice, I'll try it out.

Is it any music in that track or is it that one specific piece of music? Is it possible that you have the track muted, the clip muted or a volume envelope set?
Sahfarry wrote on 11/26/2014, 7:13 PM
I'm not sure. I put the same tracks in a different project and it exported flawlessly (the only other thing in the project besides the music was a still photo).

I know it's not muted, but what is the volume envelope? How do you check it?

So far, I've only tried these pieces. I changed the filed type like someone said and it still doesnt work

Can you upload a screen shot of your timeline to an image sharing site?

Hopefully this works. The music that is not working is in Track 7.

Nothing unusual that I see. Unless you added a track effect (other than the standard ones).

What happens if you move the clips in track 7 so that they appear at the end of the movie? Do you hear them then? Do you hear the voice track the whole way through when you do that as well?
Sahfarry wrote on 11/29/2014, 3:47 PM
Okay so I tried moving the music to the very end of the movie (where there is no video at all). I CAN hear the music now, but it's choppy for some reason. It sounds like the music file itself didn't come out properly.

The voice track comes out perfectly fine.

EDIT: Just an update, now I have moved the audio into a new track and it works, but its still choppy like before. It's very noticeable.

EDIT: whenever I put in any other music track into the project, it's also choppy.

A couple of ideas -

To help troubleshoot - open a new project, add ONLY the mp3 files. Is it still choppy?

To help get you going- Do you have Sound Forge or Audacity (free download)? Try converting the mp3 into wav format and add the new .wav files to your project instead of mp3.
Sahfarry wrote on 11/30/2014, 10:35 PM
The .mp3 files are not choppy in their own project -- they sound flawless.

I converted both .mp3 files in .wav files and I replaced the .mp3 files with them in the project media tab. I tried rendering the video again and it's really choppy.

If it helps at all, I do have Sound Forge and that is what I used to convert the files.

EDIT: If I drag and drop the .wav files from the project media tab to another point in the video, it will be choppy.

EDIT: Now the audio in the preview is not choppy, but Sony Vegas will crash when rendering.

What are your computer specs and do you see/hear the choppiness during preview or after rendering?
Sahfarry wrote on 12/2/2014, 6:52 PM
Intel Core i7-4710HQ CPU @ 2.50 GHz, 16 GB ram with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M. I have Windows 8.1.

It shouldn't be a problem with the specs -- I hear the choppiness during both the preview AND after rendering. While the music is choppy, I can hear the voice track audio perfectly fine in the preview.

I've opened up the actual .wav and .mp3 files in Windows Media Player and there is no choppiness whatsoever. This truly confuses me.

I agree. It shouldn't be your cpu. Not sure what else to suggest. :(

Eh well I'm going to try and contact customer support or something to try and resolve this or something along those lines. I may call them or try and find time for the live chat if they're even the ones that i'd go to.

Either way, thanks for sticking with me this whole time.

If anybody else knows a fix, I would appreciate the help.
