Mute and Solo supposed to work like this?

Okay, maybe I'm really thick-headed, but this throws me:

(1) If you mute a track, then hitting the Solo button cancels the mute and locks the solo button.

(2) If you solo a track, then hitting the mute button doesn't cancel the solo but locks the mute button also.

I don't understand why hitting one button doesn't automatically cancel the other. It used to in earlier versions of Vegas.

If this is by design, then what does it mean when a track has both Mute and Solo buttons depressed at the same time? (scenario #2 above)

I kind of got tangled up with that myself especially in the middle of the track. I would mute a section then couldn't figure out how to unmute just that section.

In Vegas 4 (which is my current version) I am unable to click on both solo and mute even using the CTRL key. One unchecks the other. If I right click on an event and choose Switches I can Mute that event. I do that all the time in multiple track complex projects when I want to try out clips to see if one works better than another.

Mute and Solo at the same time = Mime ??
