Muting Audio during capture

Is there any way to mute the audio during capture? I have a processor that can easily handle capture in the background while I continue to edit on another instance of Vegas in the foreground. But I can't figure out how to turn off the audio from the capture.

Can the capture audio be muted?

I'm guessing you mean you don't want to monitor the audio while you're capturing, and not that you want to capture a file with no audio, right? Options / Preview Audio ... click it to remove the checkmark.

If, on the other hand, you really do want a captured file with no audio, Options / Preferences / Capture / Capture audio ... remove that checkmark.

I did mean that I want to capture the audio. I just want it to shut up while it's capturing.

I'm on the latest version (8.0c). But I don't see either one of the options you described. There is no "Preview Audio" on my Options pulldown. There is a Mute All Audio. But it doesn't have any effect on the capture process. I also do not have a 'capture' tab on my Options-->Preferences dialog. Am I missing something?

Are you looking at Options in the VidCap program?

Where did you get a version 8.0c? The latest version available is 8.0b.

He's probably using Vegas Movie Studio 8.0c.

My mistake. It's 8.0b, (and it is not "studio"). But now I'm really confused. What video capture program are you referring to? I simply select "Capture" from the File menu on Vegas, and another pane/tab appears in the subwindow along with the explorer, transitions, Project Media, etc. In my case, there is no separate program with a separate options menu. It's just part of Vegas.

I'm capturing HD. Is there a different program for capture if you capture HD vs. Std def?

Thanks for the info. I kinda remember something about a separate program. But I don't have a clue how to access it. No options appear when I select "Capture" to select a different program. But I guess that's not really an issue for me at this point considering I'm capturing HD.

But now that we've got that confusion resolved, I need to use the HD capture and I still have the original problem.... I want to mute the audio during capture. How do I do this using the HD capture function in Vegas?

When you go to File - Capture, it pops up a dialog asking if you want the External (SD) or Internal (HD) capture app. There's also a checkbox saying not to ask again. You apparently checked that box with Internal selected. To change to the other, you have to go to Options - Preferences now and switch it. If you're only capturing HD, you don't need to worry about it at this point.

But that still doesn't answer the question I started the thread for to begin with.... How do I mute the audio during capture (in the HD capture version) so that I can continue editing in another instance of Vegas while capturing silently in the background?
