Mutli Chain Video FX Editing?

I am confused. I want to add 2 Video FX to one of my video events. One is mirror and the other is News Print.
I clicked the event and added the 2 fx which display in the top of my dialog. Now reading the manual it says I can turn on and off these events in the timeline. But it does not seem to work. All I want to do is have the first half of the event with mirror and the second half with news print. I have tried fiddling about with the pre/post but whatever I do the Newsprint is active over the whole event.
Can anyone help me with this please

Split the event where you want the change to occur. You'll now have two separate events. Add Mirror to the first event and Newsprint to the second one.

Alternatively, i think version 6 includes keyframes, but i'm not sure though. If it does, you'll see a tiny timeline in the bottom of the effects window. You can add points (keyframes) to this timeline and change the settings of the effects at each point. You can start the event with both effects, but with newsprint set to no effect. Then one frame before the switch add another keyframe with the same settings. One frame later, add a third keyframe, set mirror to no effect and newsprint to whatever level you want. Add one last keyframe at the end duplicating the third keyframe.

Yo thanks for the quick reply. Yep I figured what you said about splitting but this is a chore. I am using V6 MS and using the timeline. I am well familiar with timeline work but it don't seem to work.
I am doing it like this. I have the 2 events on the Video Event FX dialog at the top (Chain). At the start of the time line I create a Keyframe for the mirror with the mirror fx ticked on. (The News Print is not ticked). This is OK. I then create another keyframe half way through the event, and tick on the News print. Now at this stage I would expect (when I drag the controller back and forth from the start to the finish of the event) the News Print only to display after the middle keyframe, but it displays before and after it thus overlaying the mirror fx for the first half.????????????

Ermmmmmm reiterating where you sain set to no effect, how do I find that? If it is the tick in the chain event at the top I have tried it and it doesn't make any difference.

The tickmark at the top enables/disables the effect in the chain. If it's checked, it's on for the whole event.

To disable an event via keyframes find whatever settings end up having no effect. For example, with newsprint set the Dot size to 0.0000 and the Type to Color. This will result in the same output as if the effect wasn't applied. For mirror try setting the angle to -180 and X & Y to 0.000.

AhHa, thats cracked it. Thanks, I have sussed it now. A bit of a bodge isn't it, still there you go it's still better than all the other packages I blown hard earned cash on. I don't know if I ever told you, but the funniest one was Pinnacle. What a load of crap. I must have spent about 200ish pounds on the software and all the plugins etc. And one day my sys crashed (thanks to Pinnacle) so I reinstalled everything and could not get my keys to work. After sending them nunerous emails and telephone calls to every part of the globe, some guy called me from India and said the only way I could overcome the problem would be to upgrade. So after a bit of deliberation I sent them a very strong email reminding them of what a load of KAK their software was. And in the end congratulated their support for the best piece of advice they had given me all the way through. "Upgrade".
So I said to them I have taken their advice "bit the bullet" and upgraded. "TOO SONY VEGAS". Suprisingly I never heard from them after that. <GRIN>

Once again thanks for the help.
