MXF generated in Vegas cannot be loaded into Vegas

I've temporarily abandoned Cineform (because it doesn't work in 64 bit versions of anything and because of their evil activation/deactivation system.... yes I bought NeoScene but can't use it).

There has been a lot of talk about Sony's MXF format... so I thought I'd give it a try. I loaded up an MP4 file and rendered it to an MXF file.

But when I drag the MXF into the timeline or trimmer, I get no video stream. What am I doing wrong?

It's difficult to answer that question, based on the information that you have provided. I assume that you are referring to the setting, "XDCAM HD 422, 50 mbps." Do the clip properties show up correctly, when you right click on the clip? Can you play the clip with the SONY XDCAM player?

XDCAM Player download

Is the behavior the same in both 32 bit and 64 bit Vegas Pro 9?

Can't imagine what you're doing wrong. It works for me--all the time.

Would need more information on work flow.

jabloom,

I clicked on your link, but the page loaded does not have a link to download the player. It says "click on link to the right", but none exists. I registered to the website, thinking that might be the problem, but nothing changed.

I am trying to render a MXF clip with the settings:
Audio: 48,000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo, PCM
Video: 29.970 fps, 1920x1080 Progressive, MPEG HD422
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.000

Vegas 9.0 64 bit, Vista 64 Ultimate

I just tried it in Vegas 9.0 32 bit and it works fine!

So I tried it once more with Vegas 9.0 64 bit and it still doesn't work there.

I believe this is all related to Vegas's flakey handling of my Sanyo MP4 files. The only way I can even get Vegas to load them is by renaming Vegas's mcmp3plug.dll and installing Quicktime.... otherwise Vegas can't even load them or shows red for the video stream.

You're probably right.

I just checked it again with Vegas Pro 9 64 bit and it will read a high bitrate MXF file fine, whether it was created by the 64 bit or 32 bit version of Vegas Pro. You probably want to contact SCS support about your problem.

I don't think the problem is Vegas reading the MXF file.... It's Vegas understanding my MP4 video stream and adding it to the MXF file when rendering.

Vegas can't show a video stream in an MXF file if none exists. :)

I suppose that's possible. But if Vegas can display the video in your MP4 clip, when you preview, one would think that it would have no trouble rendering it. But you never know with codecs, etc. They have become a modern day Tower of Babel.
