.MXF impossible to import on VEGAS PRO 20 / 326 BUILD

Tenania-Parent wrote on 1/30/2023, 5:46 PM

Hi,

Since the last update, I cannot playback .MXF files on my previous projects (created with the previous build)

This is problematic because it was working on the previous build, but it seems like I cannor import .MXF files in Vegas pro 20 Anymore.

It is really important to have this codec enabled or at the possibility to work with these file because when you color grade/stabilize Sony's last video files (On A7IV/A7SIII/ZVE10/FX30) in order to get the best quality out of these files the format is .MXF

It always worked, but now it does not anymore.

Developement team has to work on it, otherwise it will be big trouble for lot of users which are in the same case.

@Tenania-Parent We are unaware of any issues related to importing MXF files. Could you provide a sample file for us to analyze?

Todd-A0 wrote on 1/30/2023, 7:43 PM

@VEGASDerek on a related matter, Vegas doesn't load X-OCN mxf files. From Sony's marketing blurb

X-OCN is supported by leading non-linear editing software and colour grading tools such as Adobe Premiere CC, Apple Final Cut Pro via Calibrated{Q} Sony RAW Decode plug-in, Avid Media Composer via nablet Sony RAW AMA plug-in, Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve, Colorfront OSD and FilmLight Baselight, to name a few.

Sample file https://dmpc.cimediacloud.com/mediaboxes/742d980689654b16a9cf09c107975e05

This is a pro codec for very expensive pro cameras used by pro's who probably aren't using Vegas Pro, so I"m not invested in it's support, due to consumer codecs needing to be improved upon or added to Vegas.

@Tenania-Parent This file is unlreated to yours, other than being sony mxf, please upload a sample to a file sharing site

@set It's one of those pseudo Raw codecs like Apple Prores Raw, BlackMagic Raw, Nikon N-Raw, that use mostly GPU resources for playback but unlike those codecs the Sony cinema cameras are apparently 16bit through the entire chain from sensor to codec. It's this reason it will likely never appear on a pro-sumer product like a Sony A7SV, maybe a 12bit version to go up against Z9's N-Raw.

Playback is amazing. This is using it in a 6K project at it's native resolution 15% CPU 35% GPU

Vegas is doing well with it's development of BM-RAW and Apple ProresRAW implementations so they could make it work, but currently this codec is very niche and lacking demand

Hi,

@VEGASDerek I uploaded a really short sample.

In my workflow i process stabilisation with CATALYST BROWSE and color grading as well to export in rec 709. Then I export file in XAVC Intra Class 480 because it offers the best quality. (which generates an .MXF file)

As mentionned on my post, this file format worked on my previous vegas build. I still have the previous build on my laptop. (I won't upgrade because of that issue). If there is a way to send you the script from the previous build to show you that it works.

Below you will find a temporary link to download a sample. (link will only be available for 2 weeks)

https://we.tl/t-Uq13HBPnhA?utm_campaign=TRN_TDL_05&utm_source=sendgrid&utm_medium=email&trk=TRN_TDL_05

I am really hoping that you will make this work again because I bought every versions from Vegas 17 to 20, and am processing to noise reduction and color grade on Davinci Studio that never crashed on my old i7 3820. There is not any lags while playing back or editing on RESOLVE STUDIO.

With VEGAS PRO it struggles and often crashes doing the same with my RYZEN 7 1800x RTX3070, 64Gb RAM and SSD EVO 870 1TB.

Now the new build doesn't accept .MXF file format...Vegas pro is really intuitive and easy to work with, but if we keep paying for a software that crashes and updates removing features as reading .MXF I will have to do everything on RESOLVE STUDIO...

Thanks for helping us

@Tenania-Parent I tried various different decoder settings to prevent your file being loaded, I could not stop it being loaded. I guess reset vegas, unless someone has another idea

set wrote on 2/1/2023, 4:53 PM

HEVC legacy decoding seems not related.

The file works ok here. Something not right happening. I agree with above suggestion, try reset VP, and also restart the PC after updating.

As for 'stability', This MXF was read using mxfxavc decoder module besides of so4, same decoder used for XAVC-L codec from my PXW-X70 camcorder. I had trouble editing them after several count of files loaded.

I use Catalyst Browse to stabilize my Sony footage all the time and I can import them no problem in B326.

Here are the settings I use

I will try Class 480 to see

Edit: Class 480 works on my side. However, I normally use Class 300 and have a smooth playback with Good(half) preview. With Class 480, I need to lower to Preview(Auto) to get 29.97 fps smooth playback. System in signature.

Hi everyone,

I just had a 43Mb update through MAGIX UPDATE NOTIFIER, it probably reseted my software, but now it is back to normal. I can edit .MXF files for lossless quality.

Thank you for your help and reactivity.

Now back to work.
