My Plugins Broke

MyCat wrote on 10/16/2003, 9:53 PM
Suddenly when I try to open an MPEG file I get a dialog box saying "The requested plug-in does not have the necessary features unlocked"

Before I installed the latest Windows security updates, and Sony Sound Forge 7.0, it worked. I was happily using Vegas+DVDA.

I have rerun all the Sound Forge migration tools to no avail. I *hate* this @#$% copy protection crap!

(By the way "Sonic Foundry" and "Sound Forge" together always sounded redundant :-)

Did you happen to set the Sound Forge 7.0 install folder to the same folder as your Sonic Foundry applications? If so, you'll find the fix here:

MPEG and MP3 no longer available

Wow that was quick! Yes that was the problem (I haven't re-installed everything yet but I did original install in old directory.)

Why would Sony expect people to use a different directory? If they're like me they already have too many. [Plus my Sony directory already contains the Pixela s/w that came with the camcorder and almost made me wish I'd bought a Canon :-)] I just assumed that the new plugins would update the old, not destroy them. And yes I read the FORGE_README.HTM and didn't notice any warnings.

Okay that fixed it :-)

Sorry about the gratuitous crack at Pixela. I was thinking of Movie Shaker. The whole idea of "shaking" a movie together frightens me...

The readme file for Sound Forge should probably mention that right now the "Shared Plug Ins" are *not* to be shared with anything else. That concept escaped me.
