My thought on upgrade pricing - Vegas 9

MTuggy wrote on 4/20/2009, 10:34 AM
$249.95?

What the heck? For those of us who have suffered the multitude of memory handling issues, only recently fixed in the past two weeks, this seems a bit outrageous.

Here's the math I'd like to put forward. I spend at least 6 hours just trying to figure out the settings I needed to get V8 to render HD projects over the past two months alone.
I get $150 for editing - thats about $900 of my time.

Where is the box in the order form (promo code maybe) where we can enter this expense and get a real discount on upgrade pricing?

Just dreaming...

With the same math, for every hour you made $$ you should add that to the cost.

By that logic, Microsoft Word would cost a couple million. We pay for a product that works. What we get paid for our own creativity is a seperate equation entirely.

"What the heck?"

A pound of ground beef has literally doubled in price in the last year.
A year and a half ago I was paying $0.649 for a liter of gas. As of this morning it was $0.991 per liter.

You expect Sony to be any different?

Why?
MTuggy wrote on 4/20/2009, 7:00 PM
Yep, worldwide recession for one.

Second, with all of the posts about memory issues it would have been ideal to have some info from the programmers as to the potential solutions to the memory related crashes offered by Sony instead of having to rely on your own brilliant post about the CFF explorer and other fixes that could solve the problem for many.

The $149 pricing seemed reasonable for the last several upgrades, why bump it $100 more for fixes that needed addressing in the last version? Just curious...

$199.99 if you upgrade now.

Where do you see it for $199?
cbrillow wrote on 4/20/2009, 7:34 PM
While several users debate whether this upgrade is reasonably-priced relative to the V8 version, it seems to be lost that it does not appear to include an upgrade for DVD Architect, which is a difference from most earlier version upgrades.

Given that there was just a 5.0b release and no mention of a new DVD Architect version, that would seem to make the upgrade cost for Vegas alone somewhat steeper than previous offers.

blink, you live in the wrong part of the country.
On my way home tonight (Windsor, Ontario), it was $0.832 per litre :-)

That's the price after the $50 rebate.

DVDA 5.0 was a free upgrade.
I'd call that very generous on the part of SCS.

I guess I'm not looking in the right spot, where do you see a $50 rebate?

Or do you have to get an email for the rebate? I haven't gotten an email either.

And for that matter, can you get it for $184 for the download version with the rebate?

"Second, with all of the posts about memory issues it would have been ideal to have some info from the programmers as to the potential solutions to the memory related crashes offered by Sony"

Yeah... there are a few that KEEP saying that. Please go back and count the number of people with actual "memory" problems. You will find that there HAVE been a lot of posts.... from relatively FEW people. I don't believe this problem was any where NEAR as wide spread as a FEW on this board have made it out to be. In fact I'm a little surprised at how few people actually became interested in that work-around that I posted. Now I suppose you can read that anyway you want, but I read it as.... not as many people with "memory" issues as thought.

At any rate, no one is twisting your arm to purchase V9, and V8 is not going to self destruct on Midnight of May 11... you also have the work around which I GUESS is working for you.... so what's the problem???
MTuggy wrote on 4/20/2009, 8:05 PM
A lot of folks aren't rendering to HD yet so may not have experienced the problem. Certainly the case with some of my colleagues who are primarily rendering to for the web or for DVD quality only.

I love this board. It's easy to get stuff flying around in a frenzy...

:)

In the sticky from ForumAdmin at the very top of the main forum page.

Upgraders will save $50 during our introductory period and get their choice of a NewBlue Sampler Pack, The Sony Sound Effects Series sampler, or Sound Forge Audio Studio software.

And for that matter, can you get it for $184 for the download version with the rebate?

You sure can :-)
Here's what I get when I go part way through the order process.

Vegas Pro (Download)

Yeah... I find it pretty amazing too. For the longest time everybody has been saying:
WHEN'S THE NEXT VERSION!!!?!!?!!

Well it comes.... and bitch, whine, moan.... bitch, whine, moan.....
rs170a wrote on 4/20/2009, 8:13 PM
blink, we can only complain about the weather/economy/politicians/etc. for so long before it gets boring so we start looking for something else to vent our frustrations on :-)

Are you kidding?? I can complain about politicians ENDLESSLY! :)
FilmingPhotoGuy wrote on 4/20/2009, 10:30 PM
I suppose if you spend $200 on something then you have a right to moan IF IT DOESN'T WORK. If everyone clicks render and nothing happens then moan with the rest. If you're the only one then obviously your system is suspect.

The nay sayers are already reporting bugs on SV9 :0 but they'll continue to upgrade because they love SV and tacitly agree there's nothing better out there.

How do we know which version of Sound Effects are offered as part of the upgrade? Is it the same sound effects CD I got as part of buying Vegas Movie Studio a while back?
blink3times wrote on 4/21/2009, 8:58 AM
If you read the description it states that it is different from any other version that has been put forth. According to Sony it's its own entity and has not been offered before.
mcfallison2 wrote on 4/21/2009, 9:01 AM
Thanks! Still I wish we had an idea of what's on it.
