Sync problems appear to be the result of "Video Stabilizer = ON" setting in the JVC HRS3900. Haven't a clue as to what that was to have done anyway - no visual difference when "OFF". Tapes are now in sync. Really appreciate all the work that is put into this forum.

This is for EP video that isn't tracking well. If you notice the video "jumping" and the video is recorded in the 6-hour speed, turn this on. Otherwise, leave it off. There is a similar-sounding setting on most JVC VCRs called "Video Calibration." This sets the tracking control automatically, both prior to a record and also prior to playback. I recommend that you leave this turned on.
