My Video and audio got out of sync = Pink

TheSearcher wrote on 6/3/2014, 5:39 PM
Hello everyone.

Hoping for some help. I am learning VP12. I was happily editing a video, cutting, inserting media, moving pieces of the video around etc, and everything was easy because the tracks were in SYNC. However, I started grouping and un-grouping and somehow, by accident did something and now my tracks are out sync. The moment I do anything to the video track (inserting a Pic), The audio track does not keep up with the video track and becomes PINK in color.

Tried different things but have not been able to find the solution.

How in heck do I get them back in sync?

TIA

The searcher.

The easiest way is to just slide the audio event until it's no longer pink. then select (ctrl-click) the audio event and corresponding video event then hit "G" for Group.

To avoid sync issues from happening in the future, always know the state of the Auto Ripple (Ctrl + L) switch.

From Vegas Help "To restore synchronization, right-click the audio or video event you want to synchronize, choose Synchronize from the shortcut menu, and then choose a command from the submenu:"

Hi Steve, and everyone else. (Thanks to all for your responses)

I did what you suggested.

I have a 2.5 hr video of a trip with pics and videos mixed. The TRACK has about 25 video events, each with its audio track. As I mentioned it before, at first all the 25 videos were "grouped" with their audios, so no matter what I added or deleted, all the videos were in sync. Now, apparently, all the 25 audios are not "grouped" with their videos and thus a big mess.

So, I did what you suggested and grouped the first 7 videos - just for testing - and the whole thing worked as it did at first, added, deleted pics and ALL the events would keep their videos (Auto Ripple ON). But if I added or deleted pics from videos above # 7 (8 and above), then the audios would not keep up,
CONCLUSION: If I do the same will all 25 videos then the problem should be solved!

The QUESTION now is: Is there a command to group ALL EVENTS at one time, rather than one my one?

2- How do you select ALL events in one track?... I tried clicking on the "header" (left column of the track, with Track #, volumes and other features affecting the track), but the actual events on the track do NOT seem selected (highlighted in a darker color) as they should appear when actually "selected"

Because if you could "select" the two tracks (video and audio), then there should be a command grouping ALL events in the two tracks... you know what I mean?

Thanks to all for feedback

Hi,

Yes, I heard horror stories about it :-)

I will certainly keep learning and testing this feature.

Hi,

You know I tried doing that - as it obviously should work - but after clicking on "synchronize" the two options on the submenu would stay "blank" (grayed out).
so..... who knows.

Thx

I noticed that you said Auto Ripple On. You need to really pay attention to that and keep it off. Turn it on only when needed then back off again. Combined with the button "Ignore Grouped Events" will really make a mess of things if you are not paying attention. Not saying you are not, just that I use these a lot when needed.

If your video has the audio track you want to re-synch, double click the clip to set your in and out points, right click the video on the timeline, open it in trimmer (the in and out points are still there), then put it back on the timeline where it should be. Video and audio are now back in synch. Be sure to delete the bad synch audio, have Ignore Grouped Events turned off so they move together and Ripple turned off (unless .

Seems I never explain anything easily. Just hope I make enough sense to help.

+1 for the "Ignore Grouped Events" button being selected. You'll find it on the top tool bar.

Hi,

I am new to VP12. Fortunately I had already seen a tutorial video in some website services and that HELPED me a lot!... that is why I decided to purchase VP, but since this program can be so extensive, no tutorial can help you with every single detail.

Well, when I just started the project, I had Auto Ripple on, and that feature made everything so easy as far as inserting or deleting items.... then... somehow I started grouping and ungrouping... and I screwed everything up. But I am aware how important it is to know how to use this feature.

Thx

Hi,

You know, I know you mean something.... :)... but since I am new with VP, I don''t know what you are talking about, exactly. But don't worry, I was able to whip out a movie and that accomplished my immediate goal. But I am already faced with a lot more questions so I am working on reading the 600 page manual!!!.... imagine that :-)

Thx

You'll get the hang of it.
Then, you'll forget and mess up everything.
Then, you'll remember.
Then, you'll forget and mess up everything.
Then, you'll ask someone who'll remind you what you already learned once.

At least that's what happens to me.

I have always wished that Vegas would change the shape or color of the cursor when auto ripple was on. Or send a large electric charge through the mouse. Or emit a siren sound whenever it is on. Or something. I have hated autoripple's hard-t0-see state ever since I started out on Vegas 7.

Why not leave Auto Ripple off and use shortcuts when you need it?

@altarvic:

Totally awesome shortcuts. Thank you.
