Natural looking bouncing

Any tips for making things bounce in a natural-looking way in Vegas? It may just be my lack of artistic ability, but when I try to animate things, the movement never looks quite right. For example, I'm trying right now to make someone look like a bobble-head; their body is on one track, and their head is on another track, and I'm trying to get their head to bounce around like it's on a spring. I'm hoping there are some general tips out there.

My advice is to stay away from smooth; a beginner's mistake. Don't be afraid to make the motion erratic and all over the place with not too many inbetweens. The rule of thumb in animation is that real time in animation equals about three times the speed of real, real time in life.
