You are right.
This seems to be confusing - but just take a few seconds of your video sample and try out a few experiments with the said parameters to find out what gives the best result in your case.

Have been using Neat for years - it converts unusable video to first class recordings - and I dare to say that it adds some 5.000 USD to the value of your camera and your (missing) light equipment.

Since Vegas operates internally in the RGB color space, that's what I've been using for HDV stuff. It seems to work fine.
