Need Expert Help / Explaination on Record Latencies

Hi all,
I recently started using V4 to do some tracking (previously have used it only for mixing) and found that if I used the same settings that I used with VV3 that my recording latency increased significantly and noticably.

In VV3 I was using Windows Classic Wave Driver for my CardDeluxe with the Automatic Detection of Latency option set. I was getting recording latencies of about 3-4 msec. When I tried the same with V4 I was getting latencies much longer than this: 20-30 msec or more.

In the spirit of experimentation I varied all of the audio parameters available in Vegas in Windows Classic Wave Driver mode and those available on the CardDeluxe drivers and didn't get any better performance. Actually nothing really made any difference.

I then switched to ASIO mode and was able to get back to my 3-4 msec latency numbers.

Since I don't really NEED to use ASIO (I don't monitor effects while recording, I use an outboard mixer) I was wondering if there's something inherent with V4 after the addition of ASIO capabilities that "breaks" Windows Classic Driver mode or am I completely missing something? ASIO seems to work fine but I don't know if it's limiting me in any way.

Any insights would be helpful - maybe my only answer is from the SF team since I appear to be the only person on planet Earth (other than the testers at SF) who use Vegas with the CardDeluxe.

I've noticed the exact same thing, using an Echo Gina24. In Vegas 1 thru 3, there was never a problem with latency on playback of overdubbed tracks. Now with Vegas 4 and the exact same hardware, the latency is horrible with the mme(Echo purewave) drivers, and I must use ASIO for good results, even though I don't need input monitoring. Like you said, Vegas 4 "broke" something with Classic Wave mode.

I never said "broke" ;)
It's just different and I'm trying to understand why.
