I do the following for HD in v7
From the Device type drop-down list, choose IEEE 1394/MPEG2-TS Device.

d. From the Device drop-down list, choose your HDV camera.

Except D is greyed out. Windows detects the camera and asks what prog. I choose V7 and it launches it. I then select capture video and select HDV

I set the pref to IEEE 1394 but again...it's grayed out : (
I cant find the solution in searching the forum either...

I have yet to download Vegas 7, but I use HDV Split (free) to capture all my HDV footage and it does scene detection and is a good tool. I would give it a try. I have (sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't) the same problem in 6d. I have two A1's and one HC1.

I'll bet your FX1 is set to downconvert/yes.
Change this to "No" and you'll be able to capture HDV.

guys, I did manage to get it working but for different reasons.

For some reason my pc did not install the HDR-fx1 when I turned it on.

Perhaps I was trying to many things.

Suddenly the little bubble popped up and said found new device....installed.

Then I relaunched 7 and w/o any flaws I caught the HD tape and it looks beautiful.

Nice camera and nice software. Sonice foundry rocks (hahaha)
I have to give props to that co.
