I need help rendering 50p footage to 25i.
From what I remember, always dangerous, it is possible to have successive frames from 50p to render to successive fields in 50i (/25i).
To allow better slow motion of events (ctrl drag) one of the guys tend to mostly shoot 1280x720 50p with his EX3. This also has the advantage of providing smoother motion compared to the somewhat limited 25 fps of PAL. This footage now has to go on a SD DVD. To try and preserve as much as possible of the smoother 50p look we would like to render successive frames from the 50p to successive fields in 50i.
Using VP11 Build 595 I have been unable to make this happen, or find a solution. Part of my problem may be my inability to ever get what I am looking for with any search engine. I always get 21325, none dealing with my question, or zero results. Another problem may be not looking at the results correctly.
I remember Bob not long ago again describing how to check an interlaced event’s individual fields. If I try what I remember I see successive fields always being the same and alternate progressive frames from the source being dropped. Playing the end results using a DVD player to TV also looks 25p instead of 25i (typical judder look on pans etc).
I would really appreciate some help with rendering 50p to 50i MPEG2 for Widescreen PAL – or any other interlaced format for that matter. Also, once again, a reminder of the project/event settings used to show the successive fields for a 50i event. (A pointer to the original threads discussing this would also be great – since I cannot seem to find them).
Just a quick OT: Why can we not render to Sony MXF 1280x720 interlaced?
Thanks in advance
Willem.
