MP4 files don't support transparency. You need to render to a file type that does. Try mov with a codec that supports 32 bit for an alpha channel, or uncompressed avi. I'm not sure about other avi or other formats.

Is there a special reason for you requiring a transparent background?

Yeah. Every time I render it, I always get a black screen. I checked on VideoPad and it's not transparent.

EricLNZ wrote on 10/16/2025, 9:26 PM

What was the "it' that you checked and in what way did you check it on Videopad?

john_dennis wrote on 10/16/2025, 9:37 PM

@Tristan-Herbert Here are two options native to Vegas Pro 23 that support transparency.

Apple ProRes 4444 XQ

Video for Windows (AVI) Uncompressed

There are others like MagicYUV for purchase at a reasonable price.

Did you output ProRes 4444 or an AVI type with transparency?

Tristan-Herbert wrote on 10/16/2025, 9:51 PM

I'm only on my free trial, and I don't see "Render As" on the File tab

RogerS wrote on 10/16/2025, 10:10 PM

It's possible to render from the trial.

jetdv wrote on 10/17/2025, 6:51 AM

@Tristan-Herbert it's File - Render (they removed the "As")

Tristan-Herbert wrote on 10/17/2025, 2:41 PM

*Besides* File and Render. I don't see an AVI setting anywhere.

Tristan-Herbert wrote on 10/17/2025, 2:51 PM

@john_dennis That's 22. I have 23.

I don't see an AVI setting anywhere.

If you would like to see the other codecs, enable the 'Show all' setting in the render window, which is not obvious and different from versions of Vegas 22 and the earlier versions

@Tristan-Herbert @rraud @EricLNZ

My Vegas Pro 23 trial was interrupted by work that I was doing on the last day of Windows 10 support, so I initiated a new trial today on the beta version. All went well except that I don't have any render options on Vegas Pro 23-302, either.

Background

I've created output from Sonic Foundry, Sony, and Magix products since the mid 1990s. I've done system-level problem determination on the largest systems on Panet Earth in my past life, this morning I solved a software problem on another application and this afternoon, I replaced the belt on my daughter's vacuum cleaner.

After all that, I can't use Vegas Pro 23-302 to output a demo file for another would-be Vegas Pro user. I'm going to go watch mindless TV.

@john_dennis
John if you uncheck the audio settings from the filter does anything pop up?

john_dennis wrote on 10/18/2025, 8:23 AM

@RogerS Thank you, Roger. For a trial, I usually click first and ask questions later. This morning, I was offered 720p AVC if I uncheck all the filters.

Probably not going to allow me to learn much about the new Render panel if I'm offered only one option in the trial.
