Take the tape out or switch it to "memory" mode or you could make up a shorted lanc plug to stick into the lanc jack. Tip to sleeve would have to be shorted.

If you are sitting with the tape in the camera, the auto sleep mode is protecting you from damaging the tape/heads. It's there for a reason.

Don't forget, you can come out of sleep mode by pressing the Photo button next to the rocker shitch twice in rapid succession.

Taking the tape out will also work... like ralph said, it's there to protect the tape and heads.

Related note, but using a VX-2000..... I've been recording straight out to my laptop, but have been running tape "just in case". Once I see that the laptop records cleanly (and it has every time), I rewind the tape and use it again next time.

So far as reusing that one tape goes - is there any increased risk to the heads by using the same tape over and over? I'm sure that the tape itself has a limit and will start showing dropouts....

Having tested my process over about 12 sessions, I'm probably going to just remove the tape to keep the camera alive (testing that now).
