Need help with Excalibur

Hey,
I just installed the trial version and hoping it will do what I need to do:
We just shot a 3 day gimmick rally (fancy schmancy cars on a scavenger hunt with an unknown destination) and I have to sort through thousands of clips cutting out sections to use later. The way I did this before (when I was still SD) was select a section of a clip, render as .avi with a name I can id later and place into an appropriate folder and then delete the original clips.
I got excited when I saw "extract good clips" but when I select, hit "r" and then hit the button nothing seems to happen except my region markers disappear.
I guess my question is what is the best way to do what I described above? I also need to delete all of the leftover clips from the hard drive...does Excalibur do all this somehow?
Thanks very much,
Randy

Create regions around all the sections you want to keep and Excalibur will extract those sections for you and put them on a new timeline. It can also create sub-clips out of those segments if that is what you desire. It can also remove the region markers if you want.

Hey Edward thanks... so I have a selection with two markers and I double click between them to highlight. I select "delete markers, create subclips, and remove gaps".
I then hit the button and the only difference I see is that it adds a video track named "EGC video". What am I not doing right?
Thanks again Edward,
Randy

Create REGIONS. Then it will move everything in all regions to the EGC track.

I forgot to mention that... I was indeed selecting creating a region and selecting the regions (by right clicking and selecting "select region" and by double clicking in the timeline where it selects the region and by single clicking on the audio and video)....I've tried numerous times different ways and get either EGC video or audio but not both....also sometimes nothing seems to happen.
That said, I can take the audio and sync to the video but I feel sure I'm still doing something wrong that may not be covered in the manual.
Thanks Edward,
Randy

Create a selection area around a section you want to keep. Press "R", repeat that as you go through the clip creating additional selection areas and pressing "R".

You do need to make sure you select the video track you want to process. Then when you run Extract Good Clips, it will copy only the selected areas up to the new track.

Once you have the video events on the new track, Then select those video events and run the "Restore Missing A/V" tool and you'll have all your audio back and in sync with the video events.

Two things I wasn't doing, selecting the track (instead of clips) and and running the "Restore Missing A/V" tool (I was thinking it would move the audio also...especially when it created a EGC audio track one of the times)
Thanks Edward,
Randy

Way off topic:

Gimmick rallye? Hadn't heard of that since 1970's when I participated in the Concord CA area (and MANY environs). Bumber sticker: "Discover America. Get lost on a rallye."

But ours was all navigation and course marker (or A/B). How do you videotape that? ...and why?

It's kinda like the Gumball Rally or Cannonball Run ( it was more than a movie in case you didn't realize that). About 35 cars take off for a 3 day venture (last Friday morning) finding clues along the way as to where the next clue is to ultimately tell them how to get to the unknown destination. This year, starting in El Paso, TX, we stayed at the Warwick Denver and partied our butts off at Beta Club in the VIP balcony with an open bar...fortunately we also had limo service to and from the hotel!

But ours was all navigation and course marker (or A/B). How do you videotape that?

My son and I do the main shooting with 2 designated "camera cars". I was in a convertible with a tripod rig that shot above the windsheild so I had a 360 degree pan. Unfortunately the suspension was so tight on it that some of the footage is shaky....but usable.

...and why?

because they pay me decently and it's a whole lot of fun!

I hate to be a PITA but I can't get the video wall to do anything...I put video on 12 tracks, selected all 12, ran a 4 wide, 3 high video wall and nothing happens
EDIT: actually something does happen I guess because under the edit menu there is an option to "undo video wall" but I see no changes...what the heck am I missing?

Never mind... in this case I guess you don't select the tracks but select the events...sorry

If they're the only things in the project, a CTRL-A will work too.

But, yes, for that tool you select the events to be included in the wall.
