NEED HELP WITH HD SETTINGS

jazzmaster wrote on 1/14/2009, 9:33 PM
I have a Sony V1U and I'm shooting direct via firewire into an HP dual core with Windows Vista 64 and Vegas 8.1. In HD capture mode, my camera does not register--only an MGEG 2 Camera output, which I don't have. I have set my V1U to HDV letterbox. I switched Vegas capture to DV and recorded in DV but it wasn't the quality of normal DV shooting from my camera direct to vegas capture..

How do I capture HDV with this iLink setup? What's the trick? Do I have to record it to DV tape? Don't want to do that if I can helpt it.
Thanks in advance.
Burt

What do you have the iLink interface set to in the camera?
It sounds like you have it in DV.

In the camera I have it set to HDV1080i, the DE REC MODE is DV CAM and I donb't seem to be able to change that. The DV WIDE REC is ON, The EXT REC CONTORL is OFF. The COMPONENT is 10801/480i. iLINK CONV is ON. DOWN CONVERT is LETTERBOX.

Thanks, Bob

"iLINK CONV is ON"

I think you need that Off if you want the camera to send HDV down the firewire port. That would explain why you cannot change record mode out of DVCAM as well.

As I don't have a V1U in front of me it's a bit hard to be terribly specific and the confusion is not helped by there being TWO menu settings that impact this.

Well, by turning the DOWN CONVERT off, the capture screen now at least recognizes my V1U camera. But the only device it recognizes is an iLink 1394 TS MPEG-2. My other optin is none. I still cannot get a preview window on my capture screen. Is this normal? Do I have to record straight into Vegas Caapture without a preview? What I'm trying to do is get it to preview. I still CANNOT get it out of DVCAM REC MODE. All the other setting as as before.

have you checked the manual troubleshooting? could be something really simple.

When you choose Capture Video from the File menu, are you prompted to choose between DV and HDV? If not, there's your problem.

If so, what does it say on the capture screen when you select the IEEE 1394 option? "Device not Available"? Try turning the camera off, then on. Then hit the Refresh button (Reconnect to current device) at the top of the HDV Capture window.

Yes, I get the option and I choose HD of course.

First I got "Device unavailable" and then I changed things around and now get "preview unavailable"

As Iindicated earlier, in the Vegas componets area it says, MPEG and AC3 "not loaded." Somehow I think that makes a difference, so how do I load them?

Thanks for the help

Hi Burt,

Thank you for contacting Sony Creative Software. This has been identified as a bug by our development team and will be address in a future version of the Vegas pro software. As a workaround for now if you need preview during hdv capture, use Vegas Pro 8.0 on a 32 bit system or HDV Split. If you still have a follow-up question on this particular incident, please feel free to update it. If you have a completely different question, please create a new incident.

Sincerely,

Kevin K.
