Need Help With Transparent Video

Cakewalk wrote on 10/31/2011, 2:35 PM
I am a new user of SONY Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum II - switching over from AVID.

i have exported a transparent AVI file with Alpha channel transparency using Vegas and would like to know how to create an FLV - SWF - MP4 - or WMV file with transparent background for display on web pages.

my system is 32-bit and so i can not use Adobe After Effects for that purpose.
i have tried the Moyea and AVS video converters - but the codec is unsupported.

Can anyone help me with this task ?
i am stumped and really need help.

THANK YOU !

I’m not sure about WMV, but FLV, SWF and MP4 do not support transparency.

Respectfully -

I have rendered a raw uncompressed Windows AVI video with alpha channel transparency preserved using SONY Vegas.

SWF and FLV support alpha channel video transparency - as You can see from examples on various web pages - WMV does not yet support video transparency. - since it is a Flash video format - my apologies.

The software products and codecs that i have found all require 64-bit operating systems - and my operating system is currently 32-bit. - very frustrating that it is out of my budget to upgrade both my system and software at this time.

Any suggestions or help would be sincerely appreciated !

You cannot create Flash (swf, flv) files in Vegas.
You said you have Vegas Movie Studio. You will get more product-specific advice from users on that forum.

The free Avid DNxHD codec (MOV format) supports alpha channel and is compressed, making a very good intermediate from Vegas to other applications that support Flash-with-alpha encoding.

musicvid -

i have downloaded and installed the AVID codecs - but they are not registered in SONY Vegas render templates upon reboot - and there does not appear any way to attach them in SONY Vegas as a new render format template.

As You said - other 32-bit applications may support flash-with-alpha encoding as an intermediate solution..

Your advice was extremely helpful. - thank You.

I did not say anything about AVI. AVI is just a file format. If the codec supports transparency, AVI does not care. But the OP did not ask about AVI.
