my capture window is not reckonizing material coming through my hi8 deck. When i play a tape in the deck, the capture window reckognizes it, but when i try to play a dvd(running it through the hi8 as a converter), it's having trouble recognizing it. I know the in and output settings on the deck are correct, but must be missing a preference in vegas. Any advice? the sooner the better.
thanks

Assuming you are connecting a Hi8 source via firewire (digital8 camcorder or D8 walkman) - for an analog source you need device control disabled. (For the connection to the DV/firewire deck).............

In the Capture app, go to preferences | general and disable (untick) 'Enable DV device control' until you are done with the analog piece of work.

The capture app is awaiting the timecode data to move on and it is rare for a camcorder or deck to fill in this gap with what it thinks the timecode should be showing.

Oh, and if the DVD or a Hi8 tape has a lot of noise on it, it isn't impossible the DV based deck with analog inputs to immediately or periodically decide that the source has protected content on it (CGMS or Macrovision) and that would then block any output signal. Vegas capture isn't the problem in this case, but a cleaner source or one with less noisy characteristics may be required. You'd see/confirm this occuring by monitoring the analog outputs or the built-in screen on the deck itself.

How about capturing straight from the DVD?

Hi Terry,
No need to capture from the DVD, Vegas 6 & 7 has an import option. Go to file->import->DVD Camcorder Disk. It should inport your file nicely off of the DVD (should be in your computer DVD player). I've had to use this feature to get a show back that I've lost the source media on. Hope this helps.
