Need Recommendation for newer software

I have Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platnum Pro Pack. It never worked since the day I got , I have had tech support back and forth for months telling me that it should work, giving me vague instructions that do not work.
I requested a refund or replacement but they refuse since it is over 30 days old. I am thinking about sending it back anyway, and just forgetting it, since it does not work anyway.
I need some kind of editing software that also burns DVDs. Special effects would be nice; I wanted that and that was part of why I chose This program. I am disappointed that it actually does not do any of that as well. It must be able to burn onto DVD, something Vegas Movie Studio9 Platunum Pro Pack cannot do.

Can anyone recommend which software to buy next? I am wanting something not Sony, maybe Corel or MovieProducer? I want something that works for a change; I want something easy to use, easy to trouble shoot, and with actual USABLE tech support available.

I have had this program for 8 months. I have nothing to show for it. I have been told over and over " :Oh tech support will fix your problems" I could have gotten a differnt program and had 8 months of video to show for it instead. It is no longer worth the frustration. Tech support has not helped me make a DVD yet. They suggested this board/forum. Any Ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi reygato,
Sorry to hear you are having problems with the program. When you say 'It never worked since the day I got it', what does that mean? Are you having trouble learning how to use it, or is there some sort of bug? In either case, this forum is a great resource, and I wish Sony would have recommended it to you sooner. There are a bunch of very smart and helpful people here that can, and will, answer most any question you could have. Give this a try before giving up. Cin

If you just want to make simple videos Movie Maker is free, simple and included in Windows.

If you're a little more specific about what your problems are, the forum can assist to help resolve the issue. Granted, the learning curve is a little steep for the beginner (I was there) but like anything else, the more one use it the better one gets at it.

BTW, DVD Architect is not an editor. It's a DVD menu creator so you'll have to drag and drop your finished videos into DVD Architect and then create the VIDEO_TS then burn to a DVD.

THanks
I think it is part that the program is too difficult (I have two college degrees BTW)
I have run all of the tutorials, still have nothing to show for the time spent. I hitnk of myself as an intelligent person, but I am beyond frustrated because the programs and features of Vegas 9.0B just do not work. I follwed the tutorials, the "Show me how" Did what I was told and still nothing. And what is more frustrating is that I cannot figure out why.

As far as the DVD architect, I am thinking that there is probably a bug since it does not do anything. If I try to save or import I get an error message, if I try to burn then nothing happens. I burn the DVD using Windows DVD Burner.

I can use simple movie maker 2 but the problem there is mixing sound voice track with music. This problem is removed on Vegas 9 as it renders silent movies only with no audio whatsoever.

I am looking into Pinnacle or Corel instead.
