Need some clarification please (newbe warning)

I'm learning Vegas 4 (bought spot's book) but still have a few rudimentary questions if you don't mind:

1) Is there a way to view thumbnails of video clips in the Explorer window? What I have is something like this: "Tape 1 Family Video - Clip 009". So I've got a ton of clips and no easy way to view. Thumbnails would be nice.

2) I'm trying to do a time-lapse of clouds racing across a sky. I've got the velocity turned up to 300% but it's nowhere near fast enough to. Any tips or work arounds to tripple the speed?

Thanks in advance
Mark G

1; You can view Thumbnails in the WINDOWS explorer view, but not the Vegas explorer.
2; Right click and set the playback properties to 4.00, while still using the Velocity filter set to 300%. If that's not enough, render that segment to a new track, then modify the speed properties of the new track segment.

Thanks for the suggestons. A couple of follow-ups if you don't mind:

1) If I can't view the clips in the Vegas explorer window, what do I do to see what I want to sellect? Do I move everything into the media pool? I am working on a long project, have lots of tapes and clips. I don't want to click on each clip in the explorer window to view the exact one I want.

2) If I click on 4x play, won't that play everything at 4x? I only want to speed up a certain segment (the part with the clouds) but play the rest at normal speed. Any advice?

BTW, thank you for writing the book Spot. I'm still working my way through it, but so far it's great!

You can create sub-bins in the media pool to help organize your clips. So, yes, it may be useful to move all of the clips into the media pool.

You're looking at the wrong place. Right-click that ONE event, choose properties, and change the playback rate there. Alternately, you can hold down the CTRL key and resize the clip smaller. That will also speed up the clip (and change that same setting).

Using CTRL-Resize - you can speed up to 400%. Using Velocity envelope you can get up to 300%. Combined, that will give you 1200%. If you need more than that, just render it out and do the same to the new clip.
